CREATE A STRONG VALUE STATEMENT
Doug Bruhnke, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for DataPreserve, Inc., spent time at our June 7 meeting offering guidance to simplify your statement of value in your 30 second pitch and in everything you do.
Your succinct value message can be used when networking, creating your resume and during interviews to get employers interested in finding out more about you.
Your message must be targeted at the company/manager who needs what you have to offer. It’s how THEY perceive value that matters!
The manager doesn’t want to know what you did, he or she wants to know: HOW CAN YOU HELP ME? You have 30 seconds orless to communicate that. Use what you did only to support how you can add value in the future.
Your pitch needs to create a hook by identifying 3-5 things you can do to either increase sales or reduce costs. You don’t need to discuss details on the 3-5 items until someone asks. Just create a potential hook – are they interested?
Your goal is to get people to be attracted to you and take action (contact you, find out more, invite you for an interview, etc.). Think of you and your 30 second pitch as a billboard that hiring managers are speeding by – what about YOU makes them notice you and take positive action?
Homework
Doug advised taking time to develop the 3-5 items by writing them down, making them succinct, practicing them out loud, and trying them out on a buddy.
